The Dunes Symposium
The Dunes Symposium mural by Mitchell “SureDidIt” Schuring sweeps across the side of Valpo Velvet Ice Cream in downtown Valparaiso with joyful energy.
Inspired by the Indiana Dunes, the mural features flowing shapes and a palette of blues, sandy creams, and sunny yellows that reflect the natural landscape just beyond our city. It provides an evergreen feeling of summer for visitors to enjoy all year round and elevates the venue with modernized graphic elements that draw attention towards this historical family-owned business within Valpo’s walkable downtown area.
Playful details including rolling dunes, waves, and soft, cloud-like forms give the piece an easy, welcoming feel. Like the ice cream shop it wraps around, the mural invites people to slow down, take a look, and feel connected to Valparaiso and the creative energy of the community.

Based out of Southern Indiana, Mitchell Schuring, aka SureDidit, has been painting large scale murals since 2014. Producing murals with spray paint is kind of his thing.
When Mitchell’s not painting murals or street art he’s doing freelance graphic design and illustration work, and some of his murals take on this noticeable graphic style.
Mitchell studied Theater, Art Education, & Visual Communications at Purdue University prior to pursuing an art career. He dabbles in the world of street art all over the state of Indiana and hopes to expand his reach into other states or countries in the near future. About the mural location
Valpo Velvet is a beloved family-run ice cream shop since 1947 known for its homemade ice cream and welcoming atmosphere. VCC thanks Valpo Velvet for hosting this cheerful mural on their building at 57 Monroe St., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
